A claim or river claim for eligible Guyanese applicants.

Confirm claim availability and the related operating permissions directly with GGMC. A PPMS authorises prospecting only. A Mining Permit is required before mining.

Medium-scale permit

Prospecting and mining over 150 to 1,200 acres.

This is the detailed route covered below. Mining Licence applications require technical, financial, feasibility, mine-plan and environmental evidence.

Large-scale licence

Prospecting or mining over larger mineral properties.

Foreign companies may apply for a Prospecting Licence; confirm the applicable structure and requirements with GGMC. The land agreement, environmental authorisation and operating permissions depend on the material and location.

Quarry or construction materials

Quarrying sand, stone, loam, laterite or other quarriable material.

Medium-scale PPMS to Mining Permit

The medium-scale route has two distinct phases. First obtain and use a Prospecting Permit Medium Scale, then apply separately for a Mining Permit.

A PPMS permits prospecting only.It covers 150 to 1,200 acres, requires annual renewal and does not authorise mining.

Follow the official prospecting-permit route before preparing a medium-scale Mining Permit application.

Confirm Guyanese eligibility
A PPMS is restricted to eligible Guyanese adults and qualifying Guyanese-owned or statutory bodies. Confirm any proposed participation structure with GGMC.

Identify and describe the proposed area
Prepare the mining district, acreage and coordinate-referenced description for an area between 150 and 1,200 acres. Only GGMC can confirm availability.

Complete Form 5A and supporting documents
Use the current Form 5A and assemble identity, recent proof of address, TIN information and registration or incorporation records where applicable.

Submit through GGMC Land Management
Submit the application for completeness review and pay only the application, processing and rental amounts confirmed by GGMC.

Complete review and the objection period
GGMC performs cartographic review. If recommended, an intention-to-grant notice is published with a 21-day public objection period.

Complete payment and collect the PPMS
Pay the remaining first-year rental when instructed, collect the issued PPMS and maintain its annual renewal. The PPMS permits prospecting only.

Apply for the Mining Permit

The Mining Permit is the separate title required before medium-scale mining can begin.

Confirm the PPMS and prospecting evidence
Confirm that the PPMS remains valid, the relevant prospecting work is complete and the supporting findings are organised. A PPMS alone does not authorise mining.

Assemble Form 5F and supporting documents
Prepare the current Form 5F, mapped area description, identity and address evidence, TIN information, company records where applicable, and the mine or quarry plan.

Submit to GGMC Land Management
The Land Management Division checks completeness, registers the application and arranges the applicable invoice and payment process.

Complete cartographic and technical review
GGMC's Cartographic Section checks the proposed area and records a recommendation for the next action.

Pass Gazette publication and objections
A recommended application is published as an intention to grant. The stated public objection period is 21 days.

Complete environmental and land consents
In parallel with application preparation and review, confirm the relevant EPA authorisation, private-land agreement or Amerindian village consent.

Lodge the bond and required payments
GGMC will advise the environmental bond, rental and other current amounts. Confirm every fee directly with GGMC before paying.

Sign, collect and maintain the Mining Permit
Complete the required signatures and collection. A Mining Permit is generally valid for five years and remains subject to renewal and continuing obligations.
